A Note For When Life is Hard

I can’t believe it’s been six months since I’ve written on my blog. I truly hope this message finds you in good health and at peace. While I’m not back to writing yet, I’m reaching out to share this Essence interview clip I recently saw of mega-influencers, actors, and entrepreneurs, Khadeen and Devale Ellis. In it, they share how it feels when life gets “hard” (yes, even the life you prayed, hoped, and worked for can get hard):
I love how Essence held space for them to feel comfortable sharing this moment and I’m so glad they did.
Life can be fun…
Family can be flourishing…
Business can be booming…
Opportunities can be flowing…
Relationships can be budding…
…and balancing it all can still be hard.
This clip from The Ellises, and other content like this week’s newsletters from Necole Kane and Jeannette Reyes, showcased a level of transparency that I think older millennial audiences (like myself 💅🏾) are beginning to crave. Maybe even all audiences, to be honest.
It can be difficult to fathom that our favorite entrepreneurs, creators, influencers, executives, preachers, podcasters, actors, singers, and YouTubers get tired, struggle, and second-guess themselves. The reality is everyone is just playing the cards they’ve been dealt and having faith it’ll all work out. As much as I love a good production schedule, content calendar, and press run — nobody is a machine.
I used to think “hard” meant I was going in the wrong direction. But, I’ve learned that it doesn’t always mean that. Sometimes, it’s just a tough season. And that’s okay, too.
There’s no real pretty bow to wrap up this email. I saw this video and wanted to share my thoughts with you. Nevertheless, I hope you have a safe place, person, and/or outlet to express yourself when life gets “hard” because we all need it. Give yourself grace and space, it won’t be hard forever.
Take care of yourself, frfr.
