Believe in Your Selfie
You know what’s funny? I used to rush through hard times, not realizing that faith and endurance are built in the process.
When I first started MOXIE Nashville, I couldn’t afford to question myself—literally. I just tried things. Not many places were calling me to speak back then, and YouTube was free! YouTube became my digital stage to practice eye contact, pacing, and creating relatable content to impact audiences.
You may have heard about the faith of a mustard seed, but have you heard of the faith of an iPhone 6? There is something to be said to start right where you are and use just what you have.
When I started making YouTube videos, I didn’t have a camera. I grabbed my iPhone 6 (yes, an iPhone 6!), used the rear camera, and sat on the floor of my apartment living room in front of a window (no ring light either!). I edited it on iMovie and uploaded it.
Did I ever go viral? Never. Do I have millions of subscribers? Nope! But I learned the importance of just STARTING and USING what I had instead of wishing I was somewhere else.
Sometimes, I overthink things even though I try not to. These old videos are always a good reminder.
You never know where you’ll end up. Use what’s in your hand and don’t worry about being perfect. No matter where you start, just start and trust that you’ll end up exactly where you’re supposed to be. #BelieveInYourSelfie
